ProgramsPharmacy Technicians have the tremendous responsibility of filling prescriptions. To do so, they must understand pharmacology, basic chemistry, anatomy, dosage calculations, side effects, and more.
Medical advances and an aging population have created tremendous growth in the pharmaceutical field. There is a great demand for Pharmacy Technicians to label and fill prescriptions, prepare IVs, distribute drugs, and control inventory.
The Pharmacy Technician program covers pharmacy law, basic chemistry, pharmacology, dosage calculations, inpatient pharmacy procedures, and retail pharmacy procedures. Major emphasis is placed on learning the trade and generic names of selected drugs, drug classifications, indications, routes of administration, side effects, dosages, and storage requirements. You'll also learn pharmaceutical and medical terminology including abbreviations and symbols used in prescribing, dispensing and charting.
Upon completion of the program, you can work in hospitals, retail pharmacies, mail-order pharmacies, satellite pharmacies, or for a pharmaceutical company. Graduates may also secure employment in other areas of the Pharmacy field, such as Pharmacy Assistants or Pharmacy Clerks.
